Through the process of evaluating and refining the design and gameplay experience we are iterating for Publish 28, as described here, we have identified a change that I want to share with the community.
After reviewing the state of the Entertainer combat abilities we have decided to remove them from Publish 28. The combat abilities are not as unique, nor are they adding as much to the gameplay experience as we had hoped and they don't currently meet the quality level that we want to achieve with our publishes. Additionally they don't ultimately provide what most entertainers are looking for at this point based on the feedback we have received. I can’t honestly predict what direction we will ultimately go with this initiative, but I can tell you that I will keep you informed.
Another key topic I want to get back to you on covers questions about the missing novice dances (Exotic 1, Exotic 2, Popular 1, etc.). We have heard your feedback about the missing novice dances and we're working on getting them added back to the advancement path.
Thanks again for your support and feedback,
Grant "Rogue_5" McDaniel
SOE Producer, Star Wars Galaxies
O sea, nada de habilidades de combate para los entertianments por el momento. Seguiremos informando.
Creative boss departs; SOE says strategic goals of company and man "don't match."
Raph Koster, chief creative officer of Sony Online Entertainment, and one of the leaders behind the development of Star Wars Galaxies, has left the company, SOE reps confirmed today.
Based in Austin, Texas, Koster is widely considered an expert when it comes to the design of massively multiplayer online games. He often participates in event panels and maintains an active blog that focuses on the nuances of the genre.
Koster is leaving his post of 6 years "to pursue development interests outside of the company," SOE said.
"Although his current interests take him into areas that don't match SOE's strategic goals, we wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors."
Prior to joining SOE's Austin studio, Koster was part of the Ultima Online team at Origin Systems. In addition to Galaxies, Koster was instrumental in the development of the EverQuest franchise at SOE.
Koster's departure wasn't the only piece of scuttlebutt making the rounds today, but it was perhaps the most accurate. There was also a rumor circulating that SOE would soon lose the rights to the Star Wars license--and suffer the fate of having to delete or otherwise retire the "Star Wars" component of its Galaxies MMORPG title; SOE called that speculation "completely untrue."
And in related news, industry sources confirmed to GameSpot that Sony Online vice president of business development Cindy Armstrong would soon assume a high-leve role at Webzen America, the stateside outpost of Korean giant Webzen.
Noting that the US subsidiary has no CEO, it is likely Armstrong will take over in that capacity.
A Webzen rep told GameSpot the company "doesn't have a contract with her" and emphasized "there are no formal announcements, and we cannot confirm [speculation]."
Would you be in favor of removing the bazaar price cap completely? (Currently the price cap is 20,000 credits)
Podeis pasaros y votar en los foros, la cosa esta bastante igualada. Sinceramente, y aunque lo siento por los traders, ojal? quiten el precio limite. Es suficiente con el cap de items.
Be sure to have your four leaf clovers handy and search for those mischievous leprechauns because on March 17th we celebrate Saint Patrick's Day! Most of us take this as a day to wear green, have some corned beef and partake in some fun activities but there is a bit more to it than just that. You can find out some additional information on Saint Patrick's Day below.
Saint Patrick's Day (17 March) is a Roman Catholic feast day which celebrates Saint Patrick (386-493), the patron saint of Ireland. It is a national holiday in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, the overseas territory of Montserrat and the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Saint Patrick's Day is celebrated worldwide by Irish people and increasingly by many of non-Irish descent. The oldest and largest parade in the world is held in New York City. Parades also take place in Dublin and in most other Irish towns and villages. Other large parades include those in Savannah, Georgia, Manchester, New Orleans, Montreal, and Boston. Large parades also take place in other places, including London, Paris, Rome, Munich, Moscow, Beijing, Hong Kong, Singapore, Sydney, Copenhagen, and throughout the Americas.
As well as being a celebration of Irish culture, Saint Patrick's Day is a Christian festival celebrated in the Roman Catholic Church, the Church of Ireland (among other churches in the Anglican Communion) and some other denominations. The day always falls in the season of Lent and sometimes during Holy Week. In church calendars (though rarely in secular ones) Saint Patrick's Day is moved to the following Monday when it falls on a Sunday. If it falls in Holy Week, it is moved to the second Monday after Easter. It is traditional for those observing a lenten fast to break it for the duration of Saint Patrick's Day.
In many parts of the U.S., Britain, and Australia, expatriate Irish, those of Irish descent, and ever-growing crowds of people with no Irish connections but who may proclaim themselves "Irish for a day" also celebrate St. Patrick's Day, usually by drinking alcoholic beverages (lager dyed green, Irish beer such as Murphys, Smithwicks, Harp or Guinness, or Irish whiskey, Irish Coffee or Baileys Irish Cream) and by wearing at least one article of green-colored clothing. Former New York City Mayor Ed Koch once proclaimed himself "Ed O'Koch" for the day and is one of the most famous people of non-Irish descent to publicly revel on the holiday. Brilliant!
